The Inspiration Behind CICADAHOME
As a global traveler born in New York, I have frequently journeyed across Europe, Southeast Asia, and other parts of Asia. During these travels, I’ve stayed in luxurious hotels as well as cozy guesthouses. At the end of each day, I would slip into a robe or pajamas prepared in my room to relax. However, I often found one common limitation—they were only suitable for indoor wear.Whether stepping out to a nearby café, a convenience store, or even just taking a stroll to the balcony or park, I couldn’t help but feel out of place in traditional loungewear.
It was during a visit to Zhejiang, China—a historic starting point of the Silk Road and a region celebrated for its remarkable textile craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage—that the idea for CICADAHOME began to take shape.
Standing on this land steeped in history, I was captivated by the intricate patterns and cultural significance of traditional silk fabrics. Yet what truly inspired me to create CICADAHOME was the connection between my travels and the countless influences I had experienced throughout the years.
In Europe, I fell in love with the elegance of minimalist design, where simplicity is elevated through meticulous tailoring and details. In Southeast Asia, the vibrant tropical colors and natural elements expressed a sense of passion and vitality. Meanwhile, China’s ancient artistic legacy and Zhejiang’s silk craftsmanship elevated textile design to an art form—one that speaks not just to fashion, but also to identity and cultural expression.
